Culture and Literature
Below are some of my past work that showcases my skills in culture and literature
01
Spanish 4180 Paper: Análisis del Sistema Organizado Según con Base al Modelo de la Seguridad Social en Guatemala: Reformas, Estructura y Resultados
This cultural artifact is a literature review I wrote for my Technical Spanish for Health Management Professionals class. Drawing on an extensive literature review, the paper analyzes the structure, history, outcomes, and reforms of Guatemala's healthcare system. This paper helped me understand Guatemala’s history and how it has shaped the health outcomes the system produces today. With this artifact, I was able to apply my knowledge of Guatemala’s healthcare system to other Latin American countries with similar structures to understand how their healthcare systems work and what challenges and successes they face. An important cultural insight I gained was the ability to better understand patients' experiences, as I learned about the concerns and frustrations they face as users of the system. This paper taught me the importance of empathy, as so many people face little to no resources or access to healthcare. I will apply what I learned through this literature review in my future profession as a physician assistant to better understand my Spanish speaking patients, allowing me to provide more empathetic, patient-centered care.

Spanish Civilization and Culture Paper: De Privado a Público: Contraste de Modelos Sanitarios en EE. UU. y España
This cultural artifact is a paper I wrote for a class I took while studying abroad in Seville, titled Spanish Civilization and Culture. The course focused on Spain's history and how it has shaped the country's current society and culture. The artifact compares the Spanish healthcare system with that of the United States. This paper was important for my understanding of the Spanish healthcare system, especially since I was doing an internship at a hospital in Seville at the time. Through this paper, I gained knowledge of the challenges facing the Spanish and American healthcare systems, which are crucial for understanding patients’ experiences during treatment. I will apply what I learned during this project in my future profession by gaining context on how the healthcare system works in Spain, which will allow me to better help others from different countries who use the same model. This paper helped prepare me to engage in culturally sensitive communication by expanding my knowledge of patients’ experiences in Spain and by helping me avoid assumptions based on my own experiences.
